Finnegan is brave, gentle, and he'll do anything to protect his son. Todd is always looking for adventure, and he's always trying to encourage another dog with his sheer enthusiasm and charm. The two make a perfect duo and they're always embarking on new adventures.

Chapter 1. Finnegan is excited to meet his mate Nola's three newborn puppies. There are two females, whom Nola named Lacey and Beazley, and a male, who Nola lets Finnegan name. Finnegan names his only son, who is also the runt of the litter, Todd. Nola fears that Todd won't make it because of his sheer size, but Finnegan sees potential in his son and a beautiful friendship sprouts between the two.

Chapter 2. Six weeks after the pups are born, Finnegan hopes to go to his favorite lure coursing track with Sooty, a Shih Tzu that lives with him, but he doesn't want to leave his enthusiastic son behind, who is bored with his two sisters.

Chapter 3. Finnegan schemes and decides to take a risk by sneaking Todd to the track with him, but Sooty refuses to go with the twosome.

Chapter 4. Finnegan and Todd are headed to the track, and when they arrive, they head over to an area of the track where none of the dog owners can see that Todd is there with Finnegan.

Chapter 5. Finnegan reunites with Sherlock, a Bloodhound that is also his best friend. Sherlock hadn't showed up at the track since a Greyhound scared away his only puppy the year earlier, and after hearing that his puppy was spotted recently, he is encouraged by Todd to find her. Sherlock thinks it's a waste of time, but Todd won't give up.
