Poll Reminder + Answers To Your Questions

Trust mom won't make me post about chickens for much longer. This is the blog of a handsome Dachshund, not a fluffy chick that hasn't even hatched yet! My peeps are getting their day-old chicks in the mail in 7 days, and my mom is unsure what to name hers, a female Buff Orpington. The four names she's been considering are in a poll at the top of my right sidebar.

If you haven't already, vote on which name you like best! Some of you commented your favorite name but didn't officially cast a vote, bu I'd prefer if you vote on the poll so my mom knows for sure how many votes each name gets.

You guys had some questions. Yes, the chickens will likely be free range. However, we have a large fenced-in garden we don't use so we might turn that into a chicken yard. We want the chickens to have a good life, but here in the country there are loose dogs, hawks, snakes, rats...we don't want the chickens to die off one by one in a short amount of time, but we also will make a decision that will be appropriate for their well being.

The chickens will be laying hens and the rooster will help protect them. They're pets, not meat birds! My mom might get into chicken showing because she's already into dog showing with this handsome stud, so it would be good to get the best of both worlds. She wants to attend a chicken show just as a visitor to see if it's even something she is interested in. The difference between a chicken and a rooster is that a chicken is female and a rooster is male for those who asked.

That's all for now!
