Chicken Talk

You might know the peeps ordered chicks. Our place came with a chicken coop so the chicks have a place to stay when they are a few months old. My mom's so excited the chicks will be coming on June 1st!

Because there are 7 humans in the family, each one will get to name a chick. They're getting a Buff Orpington rooster, two Buff Orpington hens, two Barred Plymouth Rock hens, and two Easter Egger hens. My mom's chicken will be a female Buff Orpington.

Here's a picture from the internet of a Buff Orpington chick so you know what to expect.

Here's a Buff Orpington chick when they get a little older.

And here's a Buff Orpington hen all grown up!

We all know I'll always be my mom's #1, but that doesn't mean she can't enjoy her own chicken! She says that if socialized, young chickens can be a lot like dogs and can be trained. She says once they're adults, they can be trained to wear a harness and walk on a leash, something they learn to enjoy very much. She now is saying you can actually show chickens? I don't get the hype, but my mom is happy, and I know no chicken can replace me, so I'm okay with it!

Tomorrow I have something fun and interactive I need your help with, so be sure to visit back!

  2. Family chickens! How pawesome. I don't think chickens can compete as good as dogs, even if you CAN show them, but they're still pretty neat.
