Mom: Chris, it's New Year's Eve today.
Me: OMD OMD what does that mean?
Mom: Even though we're usually awake at midnight every night, tonight we get to stay up till midnight and drink sparkling wine and have fondue with the rest of the family like we do every year. We also get to think about what we might want to do...or do differently...in 2017.
Me: Sparkling wine? Is that like Ruby's margaritas?
Mom: Sort of.
Me: Pawsome! You know what I want to do this year?
Mom: Yeah, bud?
Me: Get the CGC title you and I have worked so hard for. I'm sorry that even after a year of trying to learn it I still don't get "lay down" because I'm so small.
Mom: That's okay, you're still learning.
Me: Do you know what I want to do differently?
Mom: What, pal?
Me: I want to love you even more and I want you to love me even more.
Mom: I don't know about that.
Me: What? Why not?
Mom: Because it's impossible for you to love me more than you do now and it's impossible for me to love you more than I do now. I'll never stop loving you and you'll never stop loving me. It's impossible for us to more smitten with each other and more in love with each other than we are today.
Me: That's true, I guess. I love you, mom.
Mom: I love you, too, Chris.
Me: To the New Year?
Mom: To the New Year.
