Interview With Murphy and Stanley!

Hi, everyone!

This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Murphy and Stanley, two Goldendoodle littermates that not only are adorable blogging pooches, but are the mayors of Blogville!

The words in bold font are what I asked Murphy and Stanley and their replies are in Comic Sans and in red.

Enjoy!

Welcome to Paw Province! Explain to our readers who you are and list the names of your pets. Thank you for inviting us! We are Murphy & Stanley. We are mini goldendoodles but Stanley is not as mini as me (Murphy). We are littermates so we have always been together. We are the elected mayors of Blogville. This is our first year in office and we are serving another year for 2016.

What inspired you to become a pet blogger? We decided to start blogging the minute we were old enough to dictate to our assistant (mom). That was when we were 2 weeks old. On the day our eyes opened for the first time we met our human mom and dad. We told her we wanted to share our lives with others so that they would know what a wonderful addition dogs are to a family. A side benefit is that blogging gives our mom an outlet for writing, entertaining, and photo editing. Oh, we almost forgot, cuz it is fun too. Yeah, if it wasn't fun we would not do it!

How long have you been blogging? We have been blogging for nearly 4 years. Mom had some other blogs before but they were nothing compared to our blog.

Did you grow up with pets? Our mom was afraid of dogs as a little girl. Once a doggie's tail wagged and it brushed against her leg and she cried out in fear! As she got a little bit older she realized that doggies were not mean so after that point her family had a few different dogs but they were farm dogs, not like me and Stanley. Her father was not a dog person. Once mom got all growed up she almost always has had a dog or two.

What was your very first pet? Tell us a bit about your first pet. Mom's first pet was a dog named Teddy. He was a mixed breed, husky and whatever jumped the fence. Her pal Laura gave her the puppy as a birthday present. After MUCH begging her parents allowed her to keep the pup but he had to be an outdoor dog. His life was VERY different from the lives of me and my handsome brother Stanley.

How many followers do you currently have? Right now we have 181. We would love to get to 200 by the end of the year but that probably won't happen.

Why do you think people read and/or follow your blog? That is a good question that has no simple answer. First we think they come because me and Stanley are so incredibly handsome. Mini goldendoodles are not real common so we think people might be curious. We think they might like our pictures cuz me and Stanley are what mom calls "real posers". We try to offer lots of interesting pictures for people to look at. USUALLY we try to keep the posts shorter cuz we know people are always in a hurry and often won't take the time to read a long post or one with TOO many pictures. But probably what keeps them coming back is when they get to know us a bit. Then it's more like visiting a friend. I guess our goal is to entertain them enough until they can get to know us.

Do you see yourself as a pet owner, pet parent, or a little bit of both? Mom would say a bit of both. As a pet owner she believes she has responsibilities to care for me and Stanley but also to make sure we are good citizens in our community. She gets REALLY irritated when she sees people not acting as a responsible pet owner. She says those people ruin it for the rest of us.

Has your blog changed the way you see your pets? Mom has always been a loving pet pawrent but since THIS TIME we are blogging she suspects we are able to somewhat influence others to be good pet pawrents too.

Are you more of a dog person or a cat person? Dog, paws down!

What is your favorite dog and cat breed? Goldendoodle of course!

What made you choose the Goldendoodle? Goldendoodles are smart, easily trained, very friendly, and do not shed. Mom says we are the perfect dog! However, we also are typically "wild with joy" so mom thinks no one should get a Dood unless they are willing and able to invest time for proper training and exercise (not to mention our hair is NOT low maintenance)!

Are Murphy and Stanley your first Goldendoodles? Yes

What types of pets have you had throughout your life? Mom is just a "dog person". As an adult she has had 2 husky mixed dogs, a cocker spaniel, and all the others have been poodle mixes. She likes not having to deal with shedding.

Besides your blog, have you ever had an interest in writing or have had any experience in it? Mom has always enjoyed writing, even as a teenager (but she is VERY old now). She has a partially written book that she has absolutely no desire to ever finish. In college, mom never minded writing papers. When she was working, people always asked her to write letters for them cuz she could whip out a letter in a few minutes when others struggled for hours.

What is your favorite post you’ve done, and what post is the most popular? We have so many favorites that there is no way we could ever answer this question. We do personal posts as well as "events" such as the currently running Blogville Hijinks series. We like working with other bloggers to produce fun events in Blogville. We aren't sure which ones have been the most popular since the number is skewed depending on the number of followers, time of year, etc.

What inspired you to become a pet parent, and why do you encourage others to become pet parents, despite the work and responsibility it requires? Dogs have valuable lessons to teach humans. We teach humans all about unconditional love. We open their hearts and calm their fears. We take away loneliness and bring laughter. We are one of the best additions to a family. However, we do NOT think everyone should be a pet parent nor would we encourage anyone who cannot "properly" be a pet pawrent! For a dog to be the best he/she can be, it takes time and training. If a human is willing to invest the time and training, we can reach our full potential and REALLY be part of a family, not just a pet. But it is a LIFETIME commitment and humans need to think about these things before they ever get a dog. Dog ownership is not for everyone and bad things can happen when people who are unable to PROPERLY care for a dog think otherwise.

What makes the Goldendoodle a special breed? We kind of mentioned this earlier. We are smart, friendly, don't shed, and easily trained. We LOVE people!! That's why we make excellent therapy dogs. But the other biggie is that we are people magnets! You cannot walk down a street with a Dood without having others stop to meet us. This is especially true with us mini-doods. We have had people stop in the middle of the street (while driving their car), just to ask to meet us! We are like having a real-life stuffed animal BOL!

What message do you hope to get across to your readers? We don't necessarily have a particular message we are trying to get out to others. Maybe it is more of a general theme. Mostly we just want to make friends and show them what a team we are with our pawrents. As Mayorz (we spell it like that) we are proud to be part of the organizing committee for the upcoming BAR (Blogville Awesome Retreat) in June 2016. We picked a place that is (sort of) centrally located and are going to meet our fellow blogging friends IN THE FURS! We are really excited to finally meet the folks behind the fur as well as the doggies too. Maybe that is really what keeps us blogging!

Thanks for all your wise words, Murphy and Stanley!

You're showing everyone how awesome being a blogger, pet parent, and Goldendoodle parent, can be!

Don't leave yet, though...

Here are some photos of Murphy and Stanley, courtesy of their totally awesome blog!

They were even kind enough to send some other bloggers in my direction!

Here are some pictures of these two adorable brothers from their blog.

  11. Great interview. I have known Murphy and Stanley (via their blog) for a couple of years now and thing they are great Doods. Although I would like to point out that other non-shedding breeds are also available. Wire-haired fox terriers for example, only shed a teeny weeny bit.
    Have fun with the blogging.
